What would the world look like without Marketing?

Marketing is how the world turns. It invades our every thought. Directs us to a fault. It influences what we eat, what we wear, what is trending, where we desire to go to university, even the platonic image of beauty we hold in our mind. What single subject have we been exposed to since birth and will proceed with us till death?

Each of the following will be discussed in an open forum, but one that lends itself to lecture (ppt and addition information sources) and notes.

1.01 Practice Questions
Class Discussion – Have the class discuss the Model T Ford and Henry Ford’s famous quip that customers could have any color they wanted…as long as it was black. Contrast with the way cars are marketed today.

2. How do consumers benefit from the changes that have taken place?
3. What business today still thinks with the Model T mentality?

Furthermore, does it have to adhere to the Marketing Concept? Why or Why not.
One homework asking the students to write down 5 products they would have not purchased/owned if it had not been for Marketing.

What does it take to be an agent?
Good agents can make in excess of $100,000. Good agents hobnob with the athletic and entertainment elite. Good agents are few and far between.
Listen to music, watch a game, if professional, all of the talent witnessed is guided by an agent in the background
-Select an athlete whom you admire, and research the person to determine the person’s agent. Find out as much as possible about the agent’s activities, and record your findings.

-According to rules and regulations governing high school/college athletes, athletes lose their amateur status once they contact a sports agent. Participate in a debate as to whether this rule is fair to young players. Provide specific examples to support your stance.
