H STRATEGIC MARKETING

Suggest a product such as a Coca-Cola, a McDonald’s hamburger, etc.
In groups of 2-3, have students find advertisements (from magazines, on TV, on the Internet) that demonstrate the positioning strategies used by the company marketing the product.

Next, facilitate a class discussion by having the groups compare how these companies attempt to gain sales by choosing an appropriate positioning strategy.
Divide the class into teams of 2-3.

Assign each team a company (or allow them to choose) and a product that the company
markets.

On a sheet of notebook paper or on a computer, have students complete the following
about the company and or product:

For what segment of the market is the product intended?
What is the target marketing strategy utilized by the company?
What is the positioning strategy utilized by the company?
Give examples of how segmentation might be done via the Internet.
What variables would the company have to deal with?
How could this product be positioned differently?
