Pushing on, let us put Motivational factors to rest and move to Product Positioning and image/branding.
Let us start by covering "What is your image/brand?"
What is it you say? Let us learn here.
So knowing a bit more of the terms, is a brand what you say? or is a brand what they say?
Tha positioning aspect is the "making room" in the hearts and monds of the people. As I once read, positioning is the foundation of the brand, but it isn't the brand itself. Positioning allows for the individual, group, village, culture to fill in the vacancy/vacuum with what they know or are told. It allows the company to "start anew" to reach the preference and action levels of motivation.

Once more we visit with Dan Ariely in his discussion of our Consumer Buying Decisions. Do we really make up our own minds? or do we allow other to essentially make our minds up for us, especially with harder decisions? This sense of "preference" is something that for common place things/known things we have. But what if we move you past the mundane and take you to a decision you have never made? What will you choose? This small tidbit should show us.
And taking this further, allow us then to talk about self deception...truly the hallmark of our own psyche. All of this through the power of performance and a bit of magic.

This, in no small part, was a deciding factor to the overall housing crisis we experienced and still are experiencing. More to come off of that.

Welcome in to a wonderful day. Hopefully Tennis will begin today and the Conference matches will complete with the SW ladies coming out victoriously in the end.
As in everyday I cannot make it with you, therein lies a contract, an agreement concerning my expectations for the day on your behalf.
Play nicely with the activity I left you and be rewarded...a bonus quiz, test, etc.
Play poorly and there will be dire consequences.
If the teacher has to put your name down on paper or talk with me concerning your behavior upon my return, Mr Murphy will be none too happy. Neither will you when I see you next. Be what I know each of you can be, the success I know you are today.

We now journey past the initial value systems we have and into the heart of the matter of what it is that ultimately guides (decides) our buying behavior.
We understand that the 4 P's of marketing is the only thing that we as Marketers can ever change to get the Target Market to want...desire...act upon in the form of "buying" (ideas or products).

Though starting slowly this semester, we have explored: -the basis of events in general -the costs associated with going to an actual event -and lastly, the "Economic Impact of..." many of the events you have seen on TV. Today we will finish the "Economic Impact of" and begin the journey through actual coursework within the realm of Sports and Entertainment Marketing. But before we do,

(1) Thinking back to the event at the Time Warner Cable Arena (Bobcat Game), how did attending the game affect your family’s finances?
(2) Clearly the game was theoretical, but had it been for real real, and not pretend, think about where you and your family is right now, would the trip have even been possible?
(3) Think further then and describe what sacrifices (financial ability) must occur to accommodate one game, 5 games, season tickets.
(4) Can the avg Joe really afford to attend professional sports?
(5) Is there another venue/avenue (entertainment choice) to suffice the avg Joe then if this is too costly? Give me ideas.

1/ Where did Piss Poor come from?
Interesting History
They used to use urine to tan animal skins, so families used to all pee in a pot
& then once a day it was taken & sold to the tannery.
If you had to do this to survive, you were "Piss Poor."
But worse than that were the really poor folk
who couldn't even afford to buy a pot.
They "didn't have a pot to piss in" & were the lowest of the low.
The next time you are washing your hands and complain
because the water temperature isn't just how you like it,
think about how things used to be.
Here are some facts about the 1500s:
Most people got married in June
because they took their yearly bath in May
and they still smelled pretty good by June.
However, since they were starting to smell,
Brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odor.
Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet
when getting Married.
Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water.
The man of the house had the privilege of nice clean water,
then all the other sons and men,
then the women and finally the children.
Last of all the babies.
By then, the water was so dirty
that you could actually lose someone in it.
Hence the saying, "Don't throw the baby out with the Bath water!"
Houses had thatched roofs-thick straw-piled high
with no wood underneath.
It was the only place for animals to get warm
so all the cats and other small animals (mice, bugs)
lived in the roof.
When it rained, it became slippery
and sometimes the animals would slip and fall off the roof.
Hence the saying, "It's raining cats and dogs."
There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house.
This posed a real problem in the bedroom
where bugs and other droppings
could mess up your nice clean bed.
Hence, a bed with big posts and a sheet hung over the top
afforded some protection.
That's how canopy beds came into existence.
The floor was dirt.
Only the wealthy had something other than dirt.
Hence the saying, "Dirt poor."
The wealthy had slate floors
that would get slippery in the winter when wet,
so they spread thresh (straw) on the floor
to help keep their footing.
As the winter wore on, they added more thresh
until when you opened the door,
it would all start slipping outside.
A piece of wood was placed in the entrance-way.
Hence: a thresh hold.
(Getting quite an education, aren't you?)
In those old days,
they cooked in the kitchen with a big kettle
that always hung over the fire.
Every day, they lit the fire and added things to the pot.
They ate mostly vegetables and did not get much meat.
They would eat the stew for dinner,
leaving leftovers in the pot to get cold overnight
and then start over the next day.
Sometimes stew had food in it
that had been there for quite a while.
Hence the rhyme: Peas porridge hot, peas porridge cold,
peas porridge in the pot nine days old.
Sometimes they could obtain pork
which made them feel quite special.
When visitors came over,
they would hang up their bacon to show off.
It was a sign of wealth
that a man could "bring home the bacon."
They would cut off a little to share with guests
and would all sit around and chew the fat.
Those with money had plates made of pewter.
Food with high acid content
caused some of the lead to leach onto the food
causing lead poisoning death.
This happened most often with tomatoes,
so for the next 400 years or so,
tomatoes were considered poisonous.
Bread was divided according to status.
Workers got the burnt bottom of the loaf,
the family got the middle, and guests got the top, or the upper crust.
Lead cups were used to drink ale or whisky.
The combination would Sometimes knock the imbibers out
for a couple of days.
Someone walking along the road would take them for dead
and prepare them for burial
They were laid out on the kitchen table for a couple of days
and the family would gather around and eat and drink
and wait and see if they would wake up.
Hence the custom of holding a wake.
England is old and small and the local folks
started running out of places to bury people.
So they would dig up coffins
and would take the bones to a bone-house
and reuse the grave.
When reopening these coffins,
1 out of 25 coffins
were found to have scratch marks on the inside
and they realized they had been burying people alive.
So they would tie a string on the wrist of the corpse,
lead it through the coffin and up through the ground
and tie it to a bell.
Someone would have to sit out in the graveyard
all night (the graveyard shift) to listen for the bell;
thus, someone could be saved by the bell
or was considered a dead ringer.

We are going to create a voki today. In fact, two vokis. Time: approx 30.
If you finish with time to spare, no games please, work on a better voki...possibly one to email/text to someone to ask them out, to complement them, to tell mum and dad how much you love them.
The first one you will create can be fanciful, fun, pragmatic, whatever.
What to write/record/import? Your choice here. More of a getting to understand the power of Voki.
The second one will need to resemble you in hair, eye color, gender, clothing styles, and hopefully - expression.
You then need to either record your own voice, import a file, or text to talk option to give your voki voice.
The subject of this one shall be a small script of who you are, what grade (denote as Freshman...senior, etc), the year and most importantly, what is your brand. No, not what brand do you buy, but rather, what do you expose as your brand. What makes you, well, you. This may take a bit extra time.

1/ Clearly, Mr. Murphy is not here. In celebration of this event, there will be no quiz today. Come prepared next Tuesday though, the quiz will have its day. Mr Murphy is never absent save for extreme circumstances. This must be one of those, especially since he told you nothing of this prior. The one rule today is this, don’t piss off the sub. If you do, you will deal with Mr Murphy and it will not end well for you. If the substitute has to write down your name as being...contrary, I will
(1) write you up for insubordination
(2) a pop quiz for your entire class on all of 4.01/Obj 3/Obj 2 material...Monday
(3) the person(s) in question will be named as the reason for the quiz and honored as such.
