10/14 Um, hey! where's the Party?
All the world is a birthday cake, so take a piece, but not too much."
George Harrison
SEMII
Welcome in to a wonderful day. Hopefully Tennis will begin today and the Conference matches will complete with the SW ladies coming out victoriously in the end.
As in everyday I cannot make it with you, therein lies a contract, an agreement concerning my expectations for the day on your behalf.
Play nicely with the activity I left you and be rewarded...a bonus quiz, test, etc.
Play poorly and there will be dire consequences.
If the teacher has to put your name down on paper or talk with me concerning your behavior upon my return, Mr Murphy will be none too happy. Neither will you when I see you next. Be what I know each of you can be, the success I know you are today.
HSM
So as not to burn time off of our already short semester together, in my absence, on my birthday, I left you an assessment as I have promised. Your half or front sheet in hand, you should have no problem working through the material presented.
Upon half way through, you should begin to wonder why you didn't read the material, instead, took the easy way out by cramming and copying another person's notes. Oh well!
In my absence, today will also have it reward. You will be rewarded for doing well today and not disturbing the powers that be.
As always, have fun.

The Latest Decalogue
Thou shalt have one God only; who
Would be at the expense of two?
No graven images may be
Worshipped, except the currency;
Swear not at all: for, for thy curse
Thine enemy is none the worse;
At church on sunday to attend
Will serve to keep the world thy friend;
Honour thy parents; that is, all
From whom advancement may befall;
Thou shalt not kill; but need'st not strive
Officiously to keep alive:
Do not adultery commit;
Advantage rarely comes of it;
Thou shalt not steal; an empty feat,
When it's so lucrative to cheat;
Bear not false witness; let the lie
Have time to on its own wings to fly:
Thou shalt not covet, but tradition
Approves all forms all forms of competition.

We have begun the journey of our own selves by discussing the finer points or Morals, ethics and standards. We have also seen thhe emergence of ethics in the workplace (code of ethics)simple because people, if left to their own devices, cannot be trusted implicitly.
We now journey past the initial value systems we have and into the heart of the matter of what it is that ultimately guides (decides) our buying behavior.
We understand that the 4 P's of marketing is the only thing that we as Marketers can ever change to get the Target Market to want...desire...act upon in the form of "buying" (ideas or products).
Now we get to explore more in depth as to the buying decisions that ultimately lead us to perceive the image we have of ourselves and of others.

(3) Think further then and describe what sacrifices (financial ability) must occur to accommodate one game, 5 games, season tickets.

1/ Where did Piss Poor come from?
Interesting History
They used to use urine to tan animal skins, so families used to all pee in a pot
& then once a day it was taken & sold to the tannery.
If you had to do this to survive, you were "Piss Poor."
But worse than that were the really poor folk
who couldn't even afford to buy a pot.
They "didn't have a pot to piss in" & were the lowest of the low.
The next time you are washing your hands and complain
because the water temperature isn't just how you like it,
think about how things used to be.
Here are some facts about the 1500s:
Most people got married in June
because they took their yearly bath in May
and they still smelled pretty good by June.
However, since they were starting to smell,
Brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odor.
Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet
when getting Married.
Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water.
The man of the house had the privilege of nice clean water,
then all the other sons and men,
then the women and finally the children.
Last of all the babies.
By then, the water was so dirty
that you could actually lose someone in it.
Hence the saying, "Don't throw the baby out with the Bath water!"
Houses had thatched roofs-thick straw-piled high
with no wood underneath.
It was the only place for animals to get warm
so all the cats and other small animals (mice, bugs)
lived in the roof.
When it rained, it became slippery
and sometimes the animals would slip and fall off the roof.
Hence the saying, "It's raining cats and dogs."
There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house.
This posed a real problem in the bedroom
where bugs and other droppings
could mess up your nice clean bed.
Hence, a bed with big posts and a sheet hung over the top
afforded some protection.
That's how canopy beds came into existence.
The floor was dirt.
Only the wealthy had something other than dirt.
Hence the saying, "Dirt poor."
The wealthy had slate floors
that would get slippery in the winter when wet,
so they spread thresh (straw) on the floor
to help keep their footing.
As the winter wore on, they added more thresh
until when you opened the door,
it would all start slipping outside.
A piece of wood was placed in the entrance-way.
Hence: a thresh hold.
(Getting quite an education, aren't you?)
In those old days,
they cooked in the kitchen with a big kettle
that always hung over the fire.
Every day, they lit the fire and added things to the pot.
They ate mostly vegetables and did not get much meat.
They would eat the stew for dinner,
leaving leftovers in the pot to get cold overnight
and then start over the next day.
Sometimes stew had food in it
that had been there for quite a while.
Hence the rhyme: Peas porridge hot, peas porridge cold,
peas porridge in the pot nine days old.
Sometimes they could obtain pork
which made them feel quite special.
When visitors came over,
they would hang up their bacon to show off.
It was a sign of wealth
that a man could "bring home the bacon."
They would cut off a little to share with guests
and would all sit around and chew the fat.
Those with money had plates made of pewter.
Food with high acid content
caused some of the lead to leach onto the food
causing lead poisoning death.
This happened most often with tomatoes,
so for the next 400 years or so,
tomatoes were considered poisonous.
Bread was divided according to status.
Workers got the burnt bottom of the loaf,
the family got the middle, and guests got the top, or the upper crust.
Lead cups were used to drink ale or whisky.
The combination would Sometimes knock the imbibers out
for a couple of days.
Someone walking along the road would take them for dead
and prepare them for burial
They were laid out on the kitchen table for a couple of days
and the family would gather around and eat and drink
and wait and see if they would wake up.
Hence the custom of holding a wake.
England is old and small and the local folks
started running out of places to bury people.
So they would dig up coffins
and would take the bones to a bone-house
and reuse the grave.
When reopening these coffins,
1 out of 25 coffins
were found to have scratch marks on the inside
and they realized they had been burying people alive.
So they would tie a string on the wrist of the corpse,
lead it through the coffin and up through the ground
and tie it to a bell.
Someone would have to sit out in the graveyard
all night (the graveyard shift) to listen for the bell;
thus, someone could be saved by the bell
or was considered a dead ringer.

“I remember my father saying one word to me as I would walk out to school every day: 'increments.' Every test, every quiz, every conversation with the teacher, it all added up to the final grade, which would affect where you went off to college and the rest of your life. All those little bits and pieces added up to something larger,”

Increasing inequality in income distribution in this country has broader policy implications, and there is also the growing problem of perverse incentives that result from executives receiving grossly disproportionate compensation based on decisions they themselves take.
Barney Frank
All legislative experiments in the way of making forcible distribution of the wealth produced in any country have failed.

4/28 Thursday, and Friday is still an eternity away
“Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle.”
Abraham Lincoln
We are going to create a voki today. In fact, two vokis. Time: approx 30.
If you finish with time to spare, no games please, work on a better voki...possibly one to email/text to someone to ask them out, to complement them, to tell mum and dad how much you love them.
The first one you will create can be fanciful, fun, pragmatic, whatever.
What to write/record/import? Your choice here. More of a getting to understand the power of Voki.
The second one will need to resemble you in hair, eye color, gender, clothing styles, and hopefully - expression.
You then need to either record your own voice, import a file, or text to talk option to give your voki voice.
The subject of this one shall be a small script of who you are, what grade (denote as Freshman...senior, etc), the year and most importantly, what is your brand. No, not what brand do you buy, but rather, what do you expose as your brand. What makes you, well, you. This may take a bit extra time.
Clearly, I need your voki twin url emailed to be.
Challenge: Create one worthy enough to post on Facebook.
Two fold - (1) create an iconic mini-u
(2) see how long it takes for others to copy your lead and do one as well. Ahhhhh, the power of promotion...inform, persuade, remind.
