As a discussion starter, pick a product that is popular in school.  For example, an Ipod, a current CD, or a cell phone.

As a class, have students brainstorm ways a company might market the product.

Next, pick a product that is consumed by most on a daily basis.  For example, toothpaste, bread, or gas for a car.  Again, have students brainstorm ways a company might market the product.

Help the students compare the differences between each product and the philosophies used to market each effectively.
