Explain the role of agents in sports (PM:143)

EQ: What does it take to be an agent?
Good agents can make in excess of $100,000.  Good agents hobnob with the athletic and entertainment elite.  Good agents are few and far between.

1.01 [5-3]
  1. Describe responsibilities of sports agents.
  2. Explain the rules and regulations governing sports agents.
  3. Discuss an athlete’s advantages in having a sports agent.
  4. Describe problems associated with sports agents.

Discussions
-Select an athlete whom you admire, and research the person to determine the person’s agent. Find out as much as possible about the agent’s activities, and record your findings.

-According to rules and regulations governing high school/college athletes, athletes lose their amateur status once they contact a sports agent. Participate in a debate as to whether this rule is fair to young players. Provide specific examples to support your stance.

If you are taking APCSPrinciples come the Fall, why don't we understand the basics of coding first.

This is entertaining, achievement based, and a bit addictive.

In truth, I wrote the Honors Portfolio for this course for Guilford County Schools.
Don't get stuck on Sports....it is a very large world out there.

If you took this class because you saw the word "Sports", best you re-evaluate your rationale as to taking this course.

We discuss the entire gambit of entertainment and sports, focusing much time and attention to the background contracts, safety, legal, and ultimately fan experience in crafting the ultimate event.

You will be required to write multiple papers, read and report on research papers, and chat intelligently about the pre-reading you are required to do.  In addition, we have several presentations of the authentic research you perform as well as formative assessments of the material you should have learned.

So yes, this is much more than just a topical discussion of sports.

Good Luck!
